ABOUT SYL

The education system in Somalia has for a long time been not good due to the collapse of the government in 1991. A lot of property including the education infrastructure like the university buildings and other important education equipment were badly damaged. Also, many people were left miserable and homeless. Because of homelessness, people turned the few buildings that were spared during the war into their homes. SY L University was started in 2016 by a group of patriotic academicians from Somalia who felt that there must be an immediate solution to revive the education system in Somalia. The University was started with the main objective of imparting the necessary knowledge and skills to learners. The University started operating officially in May 15^th, 2016.

Vision

SYL University Vision is to impart Universal knowledge to the learners through appropriate teaching and learning processes and also to be the leader in higher education, research, and services for Somali communities.

Mission

The University Mission is to prepare the learners to become academically excellent and professional in various disciplines and to produce competent scholars and leaders of higher quality education through professional teaching & research.

SYL UNIVERSITY’S CORE VALUES

The University’s core values are very important aspects. Therefore, every SYL University member MUST conduct him or herself in a manner that reflects these values. The main purpose of the core values is to instill discipline and professionalism in both the staff members and students at SYLU.

SYL university members believe that everybody is potentially able to achieve whatever he or she wants to provide that the person works hard with the guidance of ALLAH. Therefore, the University endeavors to assist learners to make their potential actualized through quality education with Islamic values.

Student Population

SYL University has got more than 1250 students. The University ensures that every student receives the necessary services as required. This will enable them to become competent and responsible citizens in the future.

Human Resource

There are two categories of staff at SYL University; Teaching staff and Non-teaching staff. The non-teaching staff includes the University Vice-chancellor, Deans, Directors, and Officers, Registrar, Accountant, and secretaries while the teaching staff refers to all the University lecturers. The University has more than 25 lecturers. All the university lecturers are qualified, experienced, and professional.
